Hiking holidays
in Merano and South Tyrol
Waalwege
The paths along the irrigation channels (German: Waalwege) extend over the roof of Merano to the Val d'Adige foothills and embrace the Merano basin. The paths are mostly flat and offer the opportunity of a pleasant hike amidst nature just outside the city.
The Sentieri d’aqua Meranesi is a network of trails that encompasses the entire Merano Valley Basin, allowing for an 80-km hike all around the city area. All trails are walkable allyear long and offer splendid panoramic views on the surrounding mountains and valleys. The route runs through eleven municipalities: Lagundo (Algund), Tirolo (Tirol), Caines (Kuens), Rifiano (Riffian), Merano (Meran), Scena (Schenna), Postal (Burgstall), Lana, Cermes (Tscherms), Marlengo (Marling), Parcines (Partschins), Naturno (Naturns) and Rablà (Rabland).
Hiking in the Texel Group Nature Park
The Texel Group Nature Park (Parco Naturale Gruppo di Tessa) in Merano and Environs is the largest natural park in South Tyrol. With a series of trails, sweeping views and Alpine excursions, the Texel Group Nature Park, located on the southern side of the Alps, is an ideal destination for hikers.
